Personal Hygiene for Young Girls

Personal hygiene is a really important part of keeping your health and well-being up. It’s important to keep yourself clean and free from any infections, and it’s especially important for young girls. It’s not hard to keep yourself clean when you know what to do! Here are some tips on how to keep yourself clean and healthy:

  • Wash your hands often! This is the most important step to keeping yourself healthy. Wash your hands every time after you use the bathroom, and before every meal.
  • Taking a shower regularly is the key to keeping your skin clean and healthy. It’s also a great way to relieve stress and boost your mood.
  • Wash and brush your hair regularly. This not only keeps hair healthy but also prevents conditions like lice. Don’t share hairbrushes and combs.
  • Apply deodorant every morning, and after exercising. Keep deodorant in your bag if you have P.E. at school. Experiment with different types of deodorants: solid sticks, gels, sprays, etc. until you find what works best for you.
  • Make sure you are using a good skincare routine. This includes washing your face, moisturizing your skin and lips, and using sunscreen.
  • Use mild, hypoallergenic soap. Don’t use harsh soaps that can irritate your skin
  • Brush your teeth regularly. Dentists recommend brushing your teeth twice a day for good oral hygiene. Use fluoride toothpaste and floss.
  • Avoid touching your face too much. Not only is this unsanitary, but it can also lead to breakouts.
  • Keep your nails clean. Trim them every week and ensure the skin around them does not get dry. Don’t bite your nails; they have a lot of dirt and bacteria!
  • Avoid touching your genital area and clean yourself thoroughly with water after using the toilet.
  • Wear clean clothes and shoes. This will help to avoid any bacteria and fungus from growing on your skin.
  • Wash your clothes often. This includes washing them in hot water with soap and a detergent.
  • Undergarments and socks should be changed every day. Clothes can be worn more than once if you don’t sweat in them.
  • Shave regularly. This includes armpit hair and pubic hair. Unshaved hair accumulates bacteria and causes odor.
  • Being on your period does not mean you should not shower. Continue your cleanliness routine as usual and change your pad/tampon every 4-8 hours.
  • Cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough. This will prevent the spread of germs and diseases.
  • Keep your surroundings clean. An unclean desk or bedroom means dirt and bacteria around you. Get into the habit of cleaning your space daily.
  • Avoid touching animals on the street. If you do, wash and sanitize your hands promptly. Animals are often vectors for diseases and stray animals are not always vaccinated,
  • Drink plenty of water. This will help to keep your body hydrated and healthy.
  • Eat a balanced diet, and exercise regularly. Incorporating fruits and vegetables will help your body get the vitamins and minerals it needs.

Most importantly, be confident in yourself! Good hygiene and confidence go hand in hand and help you tackle life with zeal!
