Let’s Knock the Right Door
A delegation of 25 students from different government schools in the city held a meeting with Senior Minister Education and Literacy, Mr Nisar Ahmed Kohro. The meeting was proposed as part of the events planned for Global Action Week, “Vote for Education”. During the course of the meeting, the student representatives laid down their reservations with the educational system and infrastructure. They called for strict action against teacher absenteeism and demanded the measures against the deplorable state of government school buildings and the lack of basic facilities for the school children. After listening to the demands put forward by the children, Mr Kohro agreed that when such a large portion of the budget is allocated to teacher’s salaries, they must be sincere with students. He said that Monitoring Committees have been activated to control teacher absenteeism and that biometric system for attendance will be introduced at the earliest. And within the couple of months, Minister of Education fulfilled the commitment with children and activated the biometric system to control teacher’s absenteeism.
